And this isn't a 6 cylinder Turbo, nope, it's a V8.

Looks good!
Hot air turbo TA, they were anemic in power though.

Wow!
Restored or un-molested "barn find" aside.
That's a rare sight. Most were converted to Chevy power back in the day.
Why they chose the damn 301 is beyond me.
Lucky for us Chrysler and Buick made things right.

Ooooooooofffffffffff........Yeah those things are just good for museum pieces now. My dad's friend had one for a while. Apparently the first time he brought it to work to show it off he about got laughed out of the shop. It's a turbo that, wait for it, uses a carburetor . Even the primitive fuel injection systems are better better at providing the right ratios at any given point of time for a turbo motor. Apparently it was cheap because it had "running issues". To paraphrase my dad - As long as it had that off-brand replacement carb alongside the turbo it would ALWAYS have running issues. Smog equipment + cheap carburetor = bad news.

Any american motor after 1971 was so choked by smog equipment it wasnt even funny. The difference between the two Ford 429's in my garage, one a 1970 Cobra Jet and the other a 1972 truck motor are hilariously sad. A turbo works damn good with a carburetor as long as its set up right and you have enough fuel pressure to push the fuel into the boost. Ill claim my fathers 300 rear wheel horsepower 2.8L V6 Ford Capri as proof of that.

I had an '81 Turbo T/A that I paid $1400 for in '93 or so. Star Trek silver vinyl seats, some kind of dog hair looking cover on the rear deck - and the turbo 301 was thankfully not under the hood - they replaced it with a Chevy 350

My T/A came from the factory with the 301 turbo. I am so thankful that engine was blown up by a previous owner.

Gorgeous 1980 T/A. My Trans Am came from the factory with that engine. I'm so glad a PO blew it up. I'm having enough problems with my carb that I can't even imagine messing with a turbo.
